NCRG Outreach
1. Research Experience for Gaither High School Students
(2010)
This effort
is to engage, motivate and excite high school students towards STEM area.
The students come twice a week and are collaborating with the undergraduate
and graduate students of NCRG to build a magnetic logic prototype. Note
that, the students would need to understand the basics of logic,
architecture and design.
2. K7-K8 student (Charles S. Rushe Middle School:Collaboration
with Ms. Westlake)(2008, 2009)
We (with Javier Pulecio and
Chamila Siyambalapitiyagedona) visited Ms. Westlake’s classroom in Charles
S. Rushe middle school and presented
an overview (powerpoint slides) of
nanotechnology as well as our work on Nano-computing. In 2009, we collected
a few survey data (accepted to be published in FIE 2010) on students’
interest and career.
3) K3-K4 Students Activity (Collaboration with Ms. A.
Pulecio)(2009)
We (with Javier Pulecio and Chamila
Siyambalapitiyagedona) visited Ms. Pulecio’s classroom and presented an
overview of nanotechnology as well as our work on Nanocomputing. In 2009,
we collected a few survey data (accepted to be published in FIE 2010) on
students’ interest and career.
4) K7-K8 Students (Pine-view Middle school) Interaction
(Collaboration with Ms. Westlake) (2007)
We introduce a knowledge unit
motivating K7-K8 students towards Nano-computing. This work was sponsored
by RET program managed by College of Engineering. I was mentoring Ms. Westlake in my lab to
create the lesson plans on Boolean logic, computing aspect of
Nanotechnology, Quantum cellular Automata. In 2007, we offered the
knowledge units in Pine-view middle school classroom. I and Michaela have
collected sample students’ work, discussion log and overviewed team
projects.
